Alexia Sotomayor '25 set a Youth National Record for her native country, Peru, in the women’s 100-meter backstroke event, at the 2023 International Swimming Coaches Association Invitational, held at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. She clocked a time of 1:02.67 to win the event.
Her coach, Quinn Cassidy, accompanied her to the event and mentioned that her new national record also makes her eligible for consideration in the February 2024 World Aquatics Championship in Doha, Qatar.
Before the championship, Alexia is scheduled to participate in the Peruvian Nationals in Santiago from December 15-17, 2024, and the TYR Cup in Knoxville, Tennessee from January 11-14, 2024.
